Conjunto Monumental de Panamá Viejo

Panamá La Vieja es el nombre con que se conoce a los vestigios arquitectónicos del Conjunto Monumental Histórico de la primera ciudad española, fundada en la costa del Pacífico de América el 15 de agosto de 1519 por Pedro Arias de Ávila. Desde aquí salieron las expediciones que culminaron con la conquista del Imperio Inca del Perú en 1532. Además, fue punto terminal de una de las rutas comerciales más importantes de la historia del continente americano y que giró en torno a las famosas ferias de Nombre de Dios y Portobelo y en el cual se estima que durante su período de vida pasó casi todo el oro y la plata que obtuvo España de América.

Su incendio, destrucción y saqueo ocurrió en 1671 cuando fue tomada por el pirata Henry Morgan, lo que produjo la mudanza y construcción de la nueva ciudad de Panamá en 1673 y que hoy se conoce como Casco Antiguo. Panamá La Vieja es uno de los atractivos urbanos que puede visitarse fácilmente y recorrer sus monumentos caminando por sus viejas calles empedradas cubiertas de césped para conocer su historia de más de 476 años
